The New Enhanced Mind-map…
Now, update your mind-map before we proceed! Add in whatever you learned from my previous posts onto it. Your mind-map might look like this now. Click on it to enlarge.
Feel free to add in more sub-topics if you want. Start expanding on your goals (personal health, education, career etc) as you brainstorm about what you have written under “Interests = Passion”. Ignore the other categories for now while applying what you have learned from Posts 1 to 4. Throw everything in, ignoring whether your goals are currently achievable by your standards.
Introducing the REDS Way…
You have set your personal goals. Now, check whether your goals were:
| 1) | Realistic. Building a house on the Sun. Thinking of becoming a millionaire within a day without putting in any real effort? Sorry. Not these kind of goals. |
| 2) | Emotional. This is super important. Your goal must be able to trigger your deepest emotions and your five senses. You must be able to see, hear, feel, smell and taste your goal. I’m not kidding. That’s why, your goal must always be a passionate one. |
| 3) | Deadline-driven. How long do you intend to take to achieve it? 3 months? 1 year? Or 10 years? |
| 4) | Specific. In fact, your goal has to highly specific. “I will succeed.” This is general. ”I will succeed in the property business, leading a team of ten equally motivated agents and obtaining a net worth of US$10 million by 31 Dec 2011.” Now we’re talking. |
The Final Touch…
Happy with your new-found goals? Update your mind-map again and check again. What’s lacking among your beliefs, knowledge and skills etc? Trace it and find a way to make up for it. Say you want to be a motivational speaker. You know that you have poor communication skills and you lack the qualifications. You know that getting a neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) practitioner license will solve all these problems. And you are extremely interested in it. Go get it.
The post is getting kind of long here. I’ll continue in part two. Comments please.
